What’s New at the Language Loft?

We have released several new workshops and mini-courses for Spanish language learners! Courses are held in person 2-3 times per week at the Language Loft, and online courses are also offered!

Why go with this curriculum?

When The Language Loft officially  started giving courses on Roatan in 2014, we struggled with the various systems, curriculum available, and all the online systems out there. Students came to me and knew very little about how to get around in everyday life and how to use what they had spent such a long time learning in everyday life. When I taught students already living and trying function in the second language, the giant apps were not working to get them to a point of conversation. As a result, we started writing our own curriculum, Spanish with Monsters. Over the years, the methodology has been continually developed in response to the realities that expat students face in their everyday lives. In 2020, it was quickly converted from an eBook to the responsive online learning platform.

Cute monsters are metaphorical language learners–after all, we all feel like a little bit foreign and silly when we attempt to speak a new language for the first time! We believe practice and putting yourself out there is inherent to the language learning process, much like practice is necessary for mastering a sport. We believe in reflecting on that practice and improving from mistakes! This independent curriculum has been a labor of love over many years and has taken various forms in response to the needs of students. Our goal is to give you the confidence to speak, and to embrace the world in which we live.

How do adult courses work?

Each course meets either 2 or 3 times per week! Beginner courses often meet more often! We also have a weekly facebook group meeting to answer multi-level questions, and fix some common mistakes. Students follow daily online practices, meet live 2-3 times/week, and ask questions as they emerge! Are you interested in intense Spanish lessons? Take Spanish I and II at the same time! Yes, this is entirely possible, especially for those of you who have 800 straight days with that little green owl! Level I course focuses on very basic situations and conversations, while Level II the second deals with more grammatical basics and building sentence structure! If you are interested in intense study, check out our discounted bundles page!
